Eco-Hub — When waste becomes an opportunity

The team of Zhasyl Meken LLP continues to study successful examples of the implementation of environmental initiatives in Kazakhstan. One of these projects was the Eco-Hub in Almaty, a modern site where waste is not just collected, but turned into a resource for a sustainable future.

There is a system for receiving plastic bottles and aluminum cans through a receiving machine: visitors can receive a reward for recycled materials or send funds to charity — the Fund for saving the Aral Sea. Plastic lids are recycled on site: useful products are made from them — chess pieces, phone stands, furniture elements and even outdoor benches.

The hub has built a full cycle of waste management, from sorting and pressing to shipment to processing plants. All this is accompanied by eco-education: staff conduct guided tours, workshops and lectures, explaining how simple everyday habits can change the environmental situation in the city.

“The Eco-Hub in Almaty is an example of how conscious consumption and innovation can work together. Such projects form a waste management culture and inspire us to create similar spaces in other regions,” noted Zhasyl Meken LLP.

The visit to the Eco-Hub became an important step in the development of partnerships and the formation of new ideas for the creation of an ecological center in Aktobe — a place where it will be possible not only to donate recyclables, but also to learn how to respect nature.
