A visit to one of the country’s largest enterprises showed that even heavy industry is capable of developing along the path of environmental modernization and sustainable development.

The Zhasyl Meken team visited the Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant, one of the country’s largest industrial enterprises with more than eighty years of history. The plant annually produces about 710 thousand tons of ferrochrome, a significant part of which is exported to different countries of the world. Last year, the company set a world record by smelting more than 150 tons of metal in one smelting, which is significantly higher than in similar industries.

During the tour, the staff got acquainted with the modernization of production halls and gas cleaning systems. The company has already invested more than 15 billion tenge for these purposes, and plans to invest about 7-10 billion more in the coming years. Modern filters can reduce the level of particulate emissions to European standards, and the processing of by-products such as dust and slag helps to return metal to production and reduce waste.

The landscaping events made a special impression. Over the past two years alone, over 18,000 trees have been planted at the plant and in the sanitary protection zone, and the company has planted more than 26,000 trees in the region. These initiatives show that heavy industry can not only develop technologically, but also contribute to improving the environmental situation.

Visiting the gas station has become an important experience for our company. It confirmed that sustainable development is possible even in heavy industry enterprises. Zhasyl Meken sees its task as helping industrial partners implement environmental technologies and find a balance between economic growth and concern for the environment.
